PREP ROUNDUP: PC girls tennis finishes 2nd at Norwalk

NORWALK — Port Clinton seniors Grace Arnold and Nora Pixler lost just four total games across three matches Saturday, winning the first doubles championship at the Norwalk Invitational. Arnold and Pixler defeated Shelby (6-0, 6-1), Norwalk (6-0, 6-1) and Perrysburg (6-2, 6-0) en route to the title. First doubles was the only championship Perrysburg didn't win. The Yellow Jackets won the overall team title with 140 points. Port Clinton was second with 105 points and Norwalk Gold was third with 63 points. PC had a trio of runner-up finishes. At second singles, Anastasia Hughes topped Midview's Brynn Wuensch (6-0, 6-1) and Shelby's Peyton Bruskotter (6-4, 6-2) before losing to Perrysburg's Madi Watkins (6-1, 6-1). At third singles, Megan Zgodzinski defeated Norwalk's Leksi Jurczuk (6-0, 6-3) and Midview's Danica Hazzard (6-0, 6-2) before falling in the final to Perrysburg's Cambell Looser (6-4, 6-3). At second doubles, Lilly Hatt and Jaelynn Mazur took down Norwalk's Libby Lark and Vanessa Vasquez (6-1, 7-5) and Norwalk's Roxy Brummit and Riley Helton (6-3, 6-3) before dropping the final to Perrysburg 6-7 (2), 6-2, 10-5. Norwalk got a runner-up finish from Lydia Trost at first singles. She beat teammate Abby Upton (6-1, 6-1) and Shantha Weit (6-3, 0-6, 10-5) before running out of gas in the final against Perrysburg's Penelope Giammarco (6-0, 6-1). Bellevue, Clyde tie for 3rd CLYDE — Bellevue's Natalie Littlejohn was second at first singles, helping the Lady Red tie with host Clyde for third place at the Bob Wilson Memorial Tennis Tournament. Each team finished with 18 points. Sylvania Southview won the tournament with 44 points while Bowling Green was second with 38 points. Huron and Willard tied for fifth with 16 points. Littlejohn had a bye in the first round before beating Willard's Emma Steinmetz in the semifinals, 10-3. She lost to Elise Vens from Southview in the final, 10-0. Bellevue's Emerson Snyder was third at second singles. She topped Huron's Ally Murray in the first round, 10-5, before a loss to Southview's Brooke Stechschulte in the semifinals, 10-4. She bounced back to defeat Clyde's Danika Harvey in the third-place match, 8-2. Huron got a third-place finish from Emma Barnes and Brynne Hartley at first doubles. After a first-round bye, they came up short against Julia Barnett and Zoe Brujic of Bowling Green, 10-1. In the third-place match, they topped Willard's Emie Buurma and Cora Clark, 8-4. Adriana Barnes-Ortmann and Delaney Fritz from Clyde took third at second doubles. They defeated Avery Dudziak and Ly'Anna Broughton from Huron in the first round, 10-2, before a tight semifinal loss to Mimi Faulkner and Kate Tyrell of Bowling Green, 10-9 (5). The two then defeated Makayla Ortmann and Leah Hinojosa from Bellevue in the third-place match, 8-2.
