Barbershop creates buzz with move

PERKINS TWP. — Quite often, to keep up with modern times, people change their hairstyles. And, adopting a similar mindset, John Hall believed he needed to switch up spaces to best serve his clients, team and himself. "Right here, this is a better opportunity to grow," said Hall, referencing the business he owns, Hall of Fame Barbershop, in its new location: at Sandusky Mall, 4314 Milan Road (U.S. 250). Hall recently reopened his barbershop, moving a couple of miles south from previously operating within Sandusky Plaza on Cleveland Road (U.S. 6) "We love the plaza and appreciated all the growth we experienced there, but it was time to take things to the next level and get into a bigger arena and be around more people," said Hall, who opened Hall of Fame — a play off his last name and people getting an elite-style service there — in 2019. "Our brand has grown and matured a lot, and we feel like, moving here, we can stay on point with what we have created," said Hall, who's excited about his company's future. "I love the vibrance and convenience here: Mom can go shopping while the kids get cuts." Whether with his team or customers, Hall also looks forward to acting as a mall ambassador. "We are around a lot of great, growing businesses," said Hall, specifically mentioning some newer ones like D.Hilly, Tilt Studio and Sweets & Geeks. He also gave a shout-out to some long-standing businesses there, like International Jewelry. "There is so much going on here, and we are happy to be a part of it — and the mall is excited about us coming here," Hall said. "We are really grateful for the direction we are going." What's new, what isn't Among some major differences at the mall, Hall of Fame now serves clients seven days a week, up from five at the plaza. And, while appointments are encouraged, people can walk in for cuts. Though what hasn't differed, no matter the spot, is Hall's talented team of professionals and the promises they make with every client. Including Hall, all seven barbers on staff "are amazing and are well trained," offering haircuts, hair designs, colors, shaves, luxury facials, among other services, Hall said. Other barbers there consist of Logan Catri, Alec Hartman, Ryan Hollingshed, Emily Shearn, Brandon Swander and Evan Woodburn. "One thing we can absolutely guarantee is that your business will be valued," Hall said. "The vision for how you want to look is going to be realized when you come see us. We just don't want to cut your hair: We want to help make every aspect of your life better." Hall explained. "Coming here will help not only with your appearance but also your confidence, getting advice and anything else we can do to upgrade you as an individual," said Hall, noting his customers, new and old, have enjoyed his shop's fresh appearance. "We will do everything to our best ability." Hall, a professional barber for more than a decade, honed his craft while working at Benny B's Barbershop in Sandusky under the tutelage of Benny Byington. Back then, a barber school didn't exist anywhere around Sandusky, leaving people, like Hall, with few options to learn. Today he prides himself on giving young barbers a chance. Most notably, he employs multiple recent graduates fresh out of barber school, often marking their first professional jobs. "I try to mentor everyone that comes here," Hall said.
