What issues are on Erie County's 2025 ballots?

From supporting senior citizens to backing public health programs, all registered voters in Erie County can weigh in on these important issues. And, depending on where an individual voter lives, this person can also cast a "yes" or "no" vote on many other levies, specifically for road repairs, school maintenance and/or public safety services. On Thursday, the Erie County elections board released the fall 2025 ballot list as fully as possible. While the deadline occurred on Wednesday, workers finalized paperwork and confirmed a few last-minute adjustments before publicly releasing the list. Election Day occurs on Nov. 4. The deadline to register for this election falls on Oct. 6. A day later, Oct. 7, early voting begins. Here's a look at all 16 issues in Erie County with information coming from the elections board. Each number corresponds to how that particular issue is listed on a ballot. For instance, Issue No. 10 relates to a Castalia levy for road repairs. Countywide Serving Our Seniors 1. Five-year, 0.75-mill renewal levy for providing and maintaining senior citizen services; The owner of a $100,000 home will continue paying $17 a year. If approved, the levy will begin in 2026. Erie County Health Department 2. Five-year, 0.5-mill renewal levy for providing enough funds to carry out community health programs; The owner of a $100,000 home will continue paying $10 a year. If approved, the levy will begin in 2026. Cities Sandusky charter 3. Provide the civil service commission with equal power to a self-government entity 4. Amend certain clauses in local law to follow the state's ethics laws 5. Change the bidding process to follow state law and increase the minimum threshold for quotes on projects Villages Kelleys Island 6. Five-year, 1.75-mill renewal levy for current expenses; The owner of a $100,000 home will continue paying $16 a year. If approved, the levy will begin in 2026. 7. Five-year, 1.57-mill replacement and five-year, 0.43-mill increase levy for emergency medical services; If approved, the owner of a $100,000 home will pay $70 a year. And, if approved, the levy will begin in 2026. Bay View 8. Five-year, 1-mill renewal levy for parks and recreation; The owner of a $100,000 home will continue paying $9 a year. If approved, the levy will begin this year. 9. Four-year, 3-mill additional levy for general construction, reconstruction, resurfacing and repair of streets, roads and bridges; If approved, the owner of a $100,000 home will pay $105 a year. And, if approved, the levy will begin this year. Castalia 10. Five-year, 1-mill renewal levy for general construction, reconstruction, resurfacing and repair of streets, roads and bridges; The owner of a $100,000 home will continue paying $24 a year. If approved, the levy will begin in 2025. Townships Groton Township 11. Five-year, 1.75-mill renewal levy for fire protection and emergency medical services; The owner of a $100,000 home will continue paying $30 a year. If approved, the levy will begin in 2026. Note: This applies to people living in Groton Township and could apply to those living in areas of Bellevue, Monroeville, Margaretta Township and Perkins Township. Margaretta Township 12. Five-year, 1-mill additional levy for fire protection and emergency medical services. If approved, the owner of a $100,000 home will pay $35 a year. Note: This levy applies to those living in Castalia village and Margaretta Township. 13. Five-year, 0.25-mill renewal levy for parks and recreation; The owner of a $100,000 home will continue paying $6 a year. If approved, the levy will begin this year. Note: This levy applies to those living in Castalia village and Margaretta Township. Vermilion Township 14. Five-year, 1.65-mill replacement and five-year, 3.35-mill increase levy for fire protection and emergency medical services. If approved, the owner of a $100,000 home will pay $175 a year. And, if approved, the levy will begin this year. Schools Margaretta Schools 15. Five-year 7.75-mill renewal levy for current expenses; The owner of a $100,000 home will continue to pay $131 a year. If approved, the levy will begin in 2026. Note: This applies to those living in Bay View, Castalia, portions of Groton Township and Margaretta Township. Vermilion Schools 16. 30-year, 4.08-mill, $47 million bond issue for constructing, furnishing, equipping, renovating, rehabilitating, remodeling and improving school district buildings; If approved, the owner of a $100,000 home will pay $143. And, if approved, the bond issue will begin this year. Note: This applies to those living in Vermilion, portions of Florence Township and Vermilion Township.
