RECURRING EVENTS Sandusky • Tommy Boy Fest: Various times Thursday, August 7 – Saturday, August 9 in downtown Sandusky. As the classic Sandusky-based comedy "Tommy Boy" is turning 30, the city is hosting a multi-day celebration. Festivities kick off Thursday night at Jackson Street Pier with live music, a Tommy Boy look alike contest and a comedy appearance by Kevin Farley. Activities on Friday and Saturday include a downtown movie- and television-themed classic car show, outdoor screenings of Tommy Boy on a giant screen at JSP, a "Tommy Want Wingy Throwdown" sponsored by Ability Works, the "Fat Guy in a Little Race" 0.5 K, a "sights not seen in the movie" Sandusky scavenger hunt, and more. The weekend will be highlighted by an appearance and Q&A session with the movie's director, Peter Segal. Segal will also be bringing his restored 1967 Plymouth Belvedere II GTX convertible, the actual vehicle used in the movie by Tommy and Richard to traverse the Midwest, for photo opportunities. For a full schedule of events and activities can be found at TommyBoyFest.com. • Erie County Fair: From 9 a.m. – 10 p.m., August 4 – 9, at the Erie County Fairgrounds, located at 3110 Columbus Avenue. A wide variety of activities, games, animals and entertainment will take place all week long at the annual Erie County Fair. Gate admission is free but attractions and activities cost accordingly. Enjoy a relaxing Summer evening with free movies outside by the water. Bring our own seating. The event is free and open to anyone. This week's film is Shrek. • Tween Tuesdays: From 3-4 p.m. on Tuesdays, the Sandusky Library, 114 W. Adams St., will host activities for tween-agers. Visit sanduskylib.org for more information. • Open Pole: From 5-7 p.m. every Tuesday, at Up in the Stars Studio, located at 220 W. Perkins Avenue, Unit A. Interested in aerial fitness? Want to work out in a cozy, non-gym environment? Stop by the art studio to try pole dancing, aerial silks, a balance beam or any other fitness equipment in a non-class structured fashion. An instructor will be on site for safety assurances and to answer questions. Anyone under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian present to sign a waiver. Cost to attend is $5. This weekly event is sponsored by the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and are free of charge. This week's performers will be the North Coast Concert Band. Bring your own seating. • Sit and Stitch: Beginning at 1 p.m., at the Erie County Senior Center, located at 620 E. Water Street. Do you crochet, knit or embroider? Bring your project and socialize with other stitcher while you make new friends. Open to anyone of all ages who wants to come learn. Registration is not required. • Sandusky Sunset Celebrations: From 8:20 -9:30 p.m., every Wednesday at Jackson Street Pier. This pilot program is more of a vibe than an event. Its an open invitation to all to gather at the water's edge and take in the beautiful lake view as the sun sets. Each week will feature a new musical act or performer to help set the mood. No registration is required and there is no cost to attend. • Breakfast Buddies: From 9:30 – 10:30 a.m., every Thursday, at the Campbell Christian Community Center, located at 1215 Campbell Street. Enjoy a free morning made just for parents, grandparents and their preschool or younger little ones. Each week features a fun theme with breakfast, fun crafts, hands-on activities, interactive storytimes, and free diapers and wipes to take home. There is no cost to attend. • Toddler Day: From noon to 4 p.m. every Thursday, Ghostly Manor Thrill Center, 3319 Milan Road, will offer free admission to its\ skate and play areas for children 5 and under. In the summertime, every Thursday, a large group gathers in downtown Sandusky for a leisurely bicycle ride around the city. All levels of riders are encouraged to attend. Enjoy this Sandusky Summer concert staple every week. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own seating and enjoy this weekly event. Party at the Pier is a program of the Greater Sandusky Partnership and is always free to attend. This weeks featured performer will be The Menus, sponsored by Shores & Island Ohio. • General Trivia: From 7-9 p.m. on Fridays, the Sandusky Book Bar, 2101 W. Perkins Ave., will host all-ages trivia. Visit sanduskybookbar.com for more information. • Remember Crusin' Car Show: Beginning at 6 p.m., on select Fridays during the Summer, in the 400 block of Columbus Ave. All vehicles welcome. No cost to attend, but there is a registration fee for those wishing to enter a vehicle. The show is presented by the Crusin' Car Club of Northern Ohio. Fall victim to Pier Pressure with your community and trainers from local fitness centers for a FREE community workout every Saturday morning at 8 a.m., from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Participants will learn proper stretching, outdoor exercises and can walk or run at their own pace in downtown Sandusky along the various piers overlooking Sandusky Bay and Lake Erie. Open to all ages, but please leave your furry friends at home. Workouts will vary each week depending on fitness center and instructor assigned to each morning. This wellness event features a full body stretch session and guided breathing exercises, while teaching the importance of simple daily practices that help optimize physical and mental health. Great for people of all fitness levels and experiences. Cost to attend is $5 and there is no pre-registration required. Experience electrifying nights with LED lights, lasers and high energy dance music spun by a live DJ. Dress in your favorite neon or glow-in-the-dark apparel. Jump passes start at $15, but there is no additional ticket cost to attend the Glow Party. • Wild Tuesdays: From 1 – 3 p.m., every Tuesday, at Lake Erie Islands Nature & Wildlife Center, located at 255 Meechen Road. Come out to the beautiful nature center and enjoy hands-on education about nature, wildlife and animals at Put-in-Bay. This event is free and no registration is required. Huron • Mustard Mondays: From 10-11 a.m., at Old Woman Creek National Estuarine Research Reserve and State Nature Preserve, located at 2514 Cleveland Road E. Help Stewardship staff remove invasive garlic mustard to help allow native plant species to grow and thrive. All gear provided, dress for the weather and meet at the visitor center. • Osborn MetroPark parkrun: Parkrun is a timed 5K walk/jog/run happening every Saturday at 9 a.m. at Osborn MetroPark, 3910 Perkins Ave. The event is free and open to all ages; people are welcome to bring their strollers or dogs. Registration is required and can be done at parkrun.us/register/. • Family Storytime: Every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., the Huron Public Library, 333 Williams St., will host storytime with Miss Melissa. Enjoy a classic car show with upwards of 150 cars on display, with music, door prizes, and great family fun. The event is, presented by the Milan Chamber of Commerce and there is no charge to attend. Vermilion • Market in the Park: From 10 a.m – 2 p.m., every Saturday in the heart of downtown Vermilion. Every week features new vendors and new products to keep you coming back all summer. There's plenty of free parking next to and near the market. Within easy walking distance are lots of shops and restaurants to enjoy and just a few blocks north is Main Street Beach, with a great view of Lake Erie. This weekly event is a wonderful place to gather with friends and neighbors, a shady stop on a bike tour, or just a fun place to hangout as you begin your weekend. Gibsonburg • Preschool Storytime: At 11 a.m., the Gibsonburg Birchard Public Library, 100 N. Webster St., will host storytime for children ages 3-5. Visit birchard.org for more information. THURSDAY Sandusky • The Other Side of the Curb: From 5 – 9 p.m., at Up in the Stars Studio, located at 220 W. Perkins Avenue, Unit A. Learn all about how Curbdirt is taking over the world and check out the newest of the lifestyle brand's clothing line at the first ever "Other SIde of the Curb" Fashion Show. The event will feature a run-way style show, and a pop-up shop with vendors, food, music, prizes, and giveaways. All ages are welcome and there is no cost to attend. FRIDAY Milan • Night at the Movies with Mr. Edison: From 7 – 9 p.m., at Milan Town Hall, located at 24 Park Street. Step into the enchanting world of vintage cinema, enjoying a captivating evening featuring rare and fascinating short films from Edison Studios, the world's very first movie studio. Your guide through the night will be none other than Thomas Edison himself, brought to life by a talented historical impersonator, who will host the screening and answer your curious questions during a special live Q&A. Highlights of the evening include exclusive auctions, raffles, interactive photo booths and refreshments. Cost to attend is $15. Put-in-Bay • Barbershop Quartet: From 7 – 9 p.m. at the PIB Yacht Club, located at 536 Bayview Avenue. Continuing over years of singing on PIB, the Barbershop Quartet is back. This event will be held in the dining room and it's open to the public, with dinner and non-alcoholic beverages available to non-members during the event. The hall is air conditioned and this event will be held, rain or shine! Arrive early to get a good seat. There is no cost to attend. Port Clinton • "Lost in Abstraction" Art Exhibit: From 6 – 8 p.m., at The Arts Garage, located at 317 W. Perry Street. The Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council is thrilled to present Sandusky-based artist, Marsha Gray Carrington's new exhibit, "Lost in Abstraction," at The Arts Garage during the month of August. In what will be Carrington's second show at The Arts Garage, she will be exhibiting a collection of mixed-media paintings ranging from 2023-2025. She has been exploring abstract work for the past five years, and enjoys the spontaneity and "freeness" it brings her. She has no plan when she begins a piece, and the colors and marks she makes take her on a creative journey which reveals the work as she goes. Inspired by her mother, an accomplished painter, Carrington never questioned what she would be when she grew up – an artist. She has made her living creatively all of her adult life, and continues to create fine art through various mediums, such as painting, graphics, and photography. Following Friday's opening exhibit, the show will be on display until August 31. There is no cost to attend. Elmore • Veterans Appreciation Event: From 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., at Schedel Arboretum and Gardens, located at 19255 W. Portage River S. Road. Schedel Arboretum and Gardens invites all veterans and their families to enjoy a complimentary evening of food, drinks, entertainment and all the sights and sounds the garden has to offer. Though the event is free, space is limited. RSVP by calling 419-862-3182. SATURDAY Sandusky • Fat Guy in a Little Race: Beginning at 3 p.m., in downtown Sandusky. As part of Tommy Boy Fest, The Fat Guy in a Little Race 0.5k will follow the Tommy Want Wingy Throwdown. Participants will receive a one-of-a-kind race medal, 3/4 sleeve race shirt and race bib for a scenic walk/run through Sandusky. The course will start in the 100 block of Columbus Avenue and make their way to the Tommy Boy Fest celebration on the Jackson Street Pier. Registration is limited to 275 participants and shirt quantities are limited, so get registered now. Tickets are only $30 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the movie. Kelleys Island • Arts and Crafts Fair: From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Kelleys Island Historical District, located at 224 Division Street. This show features creative people who have a marketable talent just aching to see the light of day. There will be music, jewelry, pottery, writing, painting, knitting, sewing and much more. After you shop the crafts, don't forget to visit the museum, Parsonage Resale Shop, and Old Stone Church next door. There is no admission cost. Huron • Train Rides: From 10 a.m. – noon, at Community Foundation Preserve at Eagle Point, located at 3819 Cleveland Road. Erie Metro Live Steamers will have miniature steam-powered engines available to pull passengers through the park. This event is free and fun for all. Rides are weather dependent. All ages are welcome and no preregistration is required. Marblehead • Paddle at East Harbor State Park: From 9 – 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and 1:30 – 3 p.m., at East Harbor State Park, located at 1169 N. Buck Road. Join H2Ohio for a free beginner kayaking event. Participants will learn water safety before a 1.5 hour scenic paddle focused on water quality and habitat, with potential wildlife sightings. This program is beginner friendly and completely free. Meet at the kayak ramp near North Beach Parking Lot launch near the North Beach Parking lot. Space is limited, and you must register in advance. All programs are subject to change or cancellation. Children must always be accompanied by an adult, and must be at least 10 yrs old and/or able to paddle on their own. Join the Firelands String Quartet, which features string musicians from the orchestra on violins, viola, and cello. The group performs a variety of selections that include classical favorites, as well as contemporary selections. The event is free to attend and sponsored by the Erie County Community Foundation and Sam S. & Rose Stein Foundation. Please bring a chair or blanket for your own seating. Berlin Heights • Archery Basics: From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Edison Woods MetroPark, located at 8111 Smokey Road. Join certified archery instructors to learn basic skills to help you become a successful archer. All skill levels welcome. Please wear closed-toed shoes. Only open to ages 7 years and older. TUESDAY Castalia • Perseid Meteor Shower: From 9 – 11 p.m., at Castalia Quarry MetroPark, located at 8404 SR 101. The Perseid Meteor Shower is at its peak! Do you need a great place to watch the show? Join us and discover the stars through our telescope. Please bring a chair. The trail to the quarry floor will be lit to guide you. There is no registration required and there is no cost to attend. Fremont • Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: Beginning at 9 p.m., at the Fremont Community Amphitheater, located at 315 Garrison Street. Paramount Movie Nights presents a showing of the classic family comedy, Honey, I Shrunk The Kids! In addition to the movie, there will be free bounce houses and popcorn available by donation. Bring your own chairs and blankets for seating. The event is free. WEDNESDAY Huron • Bubble Boogie: From 6 – 7 p.m. at Osborn MetroPark, located at 3910 Perkins Avenue. So many bubbles at shelter 5. There will have bubble machines, large wands and other fun bubble toys to play with while listening to your favorite kid-friendly tunes. Snacks and drinks provided.
