School's investigation into officer still ongoing

HURON — Huron Schools' investigation into a former school resource officer continues. In May, the district's board of education approved the hiring of Venice Solutions Group to complete an investigation into what appeared to be related to former district school resource Officer Keith Lobsinger, who works for Huron police. Based on the original timeline provided, the investigation — which, upon starting, should have taken about a month and a half to complete — was expected to have wrapped up by now. But superintendent James Tatman confirmed on Thursday that there were delays in the process due to interviewees' availability to meet. At the district's July 7 meeting, officials discussed the investigation and sought updates. Tatman shared with the board that the investigators received information on the complaints made and were looking through it. At the time of the meeting, investigators had not reached out for additional days but did ask Tatman for a space to conduct interviews. "Other than that, they haven't shared anything because I think that's part of the nature of an outside investigator," Tatman said. "They're not going to share things until they're complete." At the meeting, board vice president Stacey Hartley added that the district does not know when the investigators started their work. Agreements and hiring the investigators were approved at the May meeting, but there could have been some lag time as to when the work began. Tatman said everything was going through the district's legal team. "It's all flowing through legal counsel, so you know what I gave to legal counsel, they might have gotten to it a day or two later," Tatman said.
