Apartment project proposed for Sandusky

SANDUSKY — A development company recently proposed a project to build new apartments in Sandusky. Yet it's far from a certainty. Here are the most notable details with information provided by Colleen Gilson, the city's community development director: • The company: The developer is Pivotal Housing Partners. • The project: The "developer is proposing to construct Sandusky Senior Lofts, a new four-story apartment building, contingent on federal funding. The apartment facility is proposed to have between 82 and 100 apartments for senior housing." • The location: It's proposed to be built on an empty lot by the Milan Road (U.S. 250) overpass. • The investment: "This has not been disclosed to the city as of yet. We do anticipate the developer requesting tax abatement (or a tax break), at which time we will be privy to development costs." • The process: The "developer has obtained a zoning variance and will be required to submit their plans to the planning commission and building department. Further, the developer is seeking low-income housing tax credits later this summer. If not secured, the project may not move forward." • The rationale: "The city is supportive of this project as presented thus far. The need for housing of all types — especially affordable, senior housing — makes this a project fairly easy to get behind."
