Murder suspect faces more charges

PORT CLINTON — A Toledo woman recently arrested for her alleged role in the murder of an 86-year-old Port Clinton man is now facing additional charges. Iesha R. Goodell, 34, was initially arrested by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office on July 24 for one count of receiving stolen property. On Tuesday afternoon, Goodell was booked on one additional charge of complicity to aggravated murder, an unclassified felony, according to a news release from the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office. Goodell was arraigned in the Ottawa County Municipal Court at 10:30 a.m. on the new charge, and her bond is set at $1 million, according to municipal court records. "Additional charges are pending. The investigation is ongoing, and there is nothing further at this time," the release states. On July 23, Goodell's co-defendant, Shawn M. Gooden, 51, also of Toledo, was indicted by an Ottawa County grand jury on the following charges: • Two counts of aggravated murder, each an unclassified felony • Two counts of murder, each an unclassified felony • One count of aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony • One count of theft from a person in a protected class, a third-degree felony • One count of tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony • One count of receiving stolen property, a third-degree felony Gooden was arraigned on July 25, where he entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. As a result of Gooden's plea, his lawyers are asking the court to have Gooden evaluated at the Court Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Toledo, according to court records. It is unclear when that evaluation will take place. As of Wednesday afternoon, Gooden remains in the Ottawa County Jail on a $400,000 bond and has an upcoming court hearing scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sept. 26. Background At about 1 p.m. on July 19, deputies responded to a call regarding a deceased person at a home in the 2600 block of E. Harbor Road in Port Clinton, according to a news release from the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office. Deputies identified the deceased as 86-year-old Warren Taylor, a Port Clinton resident, and police believe his death was a homicide based on their initial investigation. "The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office conducted the investigation with the assistance of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Toledo Police Department and the Ottawa County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit," the release states.
