Let's talk about Chalk it Up

VERMILION — Main Street Vermilion's Chalk it Up event returns this weekend for a 10th year. Colorful artwork will fill Victory Park, a draw to bring visitors and locals to Vermilion. Scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the public space, 687 Main St., Vermilion, this free, family-friendly event that welcomes everyone includes activities for the kids, like Chalk-A-Square , and other hands-on activities along with a chance to vote for a favorite drawing. In July, artists have worked on creating pieces for submission. "Instead of chalking directly on the street, we'll, once again, use chalk foam boards, provided by Main Street Vermilion, prepped with black chalk paint and ready to go," according to an event statement. "You'll also receive chalk to create your design." There's still time for people to submit a piece. More information can be found at mainstreetvermilion.org/chalk. Following the event, throughout August, people can see the chalkboards displayed at the Ritter Public Library. They'll then be available for purchase through donations to Main Street Vermilion.
