Man indicted for July murder

SANDUSKY — A Lorain man was recently indicted for murder after an incident earlier this month. Joseph P. Head, 36, of Lorain, is facing two counts of murder and one count of failure to stop after an accident, all felonies. The two murder charges have specifications for forfeiture of property and for a repeat violent offender. He is accused of the July 11 murder of an unidentified man. At approximately 2 a.m., police were called to the 1200 block of Central Ave. for a report of two men involved in an altercation. That block is just north of Tyler Street. Witnesses reported one man standing over the other man who was lying down in the street, according to Sandusky police Chief Jared Oliver. The standing man, Head, then entered a 2013 Cadillac Escalade SUV and backed out of a driveway into the street, Oliver said. In the process of doing so, Head allegedly ran over the man in the street, killing him. Head then fled, according to Oliver. Police obtained the SUV's license plate number and tracked the vehicle down to a Lorain address. With the assistance of Lorain police, Sandusky detectives executed a search warrant in Lorain where they seized the vehicle and arrested Head. As of late Monday, he remains locked up in the Erie County Jail under a $1 million bond.
