2-car crash on Ohio 2

HURON TWP. — Two cars collided on Ohio 2 early Sunday morning. Just after 1:30 a.m., first responders were called to a car crash on Ohio 2. The vehicles involved, a minivan and a sedan, came to a rest in a ditch to the right of the eastbound lanes. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol: • The minivan was driven by a 29-year-old Huron man. • The sedan was driven by a 20-year-old Huron man. The minivan's driver drove out of his marked lane and into the shoulder, where the sedan was parked due to unknown mechanical reasons. The minivan traveled off the road and down an embankment. The 29-year-old was wearing his seat belt and was not injured. The sedan's driver was ejected from the car. He suffered serious injuries. He was taken to a local hospital and then flown by medical helicopter to a Cleveland Hospital, according to the release. The crash occurred about 2.5 miles east of the Milan Road (U.S. 250) interchange. The minivan had some damage, and the airbags did deploy. The sedan was extensively damaged and appeared to have landed on its roof. Huron Township EMTs arrived and began tending to the injured driver. A man who appeared to be the minivan's driver was placed into the back seat of a state trooper's cruiser for a short period. When he emerged, he appeared to have a copy of a traffic citation. A trooper on the scene said they did not suspect the at-fault driver was intoxicated. Interstate and Sandusky towing companies arrived to remove the vehicles from the ditch and haul them away.
