Splash, play, say goodbye to summer

PERKINS TWP. — The countdown is on for one last week of crafts, games and fun at Perkins Township's Summer Park Program. All summer long, children could take advantage of a free recreational offering put on by the local government, focusing on outdoor fun, creativity and connection at Strickfaden Park, 318 Bell Ave, Sandusky. Activities include arts and crafts, sports, games and a healthy snack — all designed to get kids moving, socializing and enjoying the outdoors. "This program is a way to get kids out of the house, off the screens and back with their friends," said Brittany Henley, the township's public service coordinator. "It's great for their mental health, and it's fun." Now in its third year, the program is open to children entering first through fifth grades. This week, it runs from 9-11 a.m. daily Monday through Wednesday. This week's highlights include a visit from the fire department on Monday and Tuesday when kids will get to cool off and play in the water, weather permitting.
