'Spice it Up' at the Huron library

HURON — From watercolor art to writing workshops, book clubs and health screening, the Huron Public Library has a full calendar of events in August. The library, 333 Williams St., Huron, continues to offer a wide range of programs for all ages and interests. Throughout the month, visitors can enjoy an exhibit — titled "Art in the Gallery: Watercolors by Deborah Loiacono" — in the downstairs gallery. People can view watercolor paintings from Loiacono, a local artist, all next month. Here are some more notable events: • Spice It Up! Pickup: Starting Aug. 1, pick up a spice kit and recipe inspired by global cuisine. Kits are available while supplies last. • Senior Stretch: Join Beverly Henderson for a gentle stretching class every 10:30 a.m. on Friday. • Introduction to Arabic: Language translator Jennifer Rader will offer a brief overview of the Arabic language at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 4. • Crafting a Query Letter: At 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 7, publishing expert Brandi Larsen shares tips for writers seeking agents. • Movie Matinee screening "Bad Guys": Cool off with a family-friendly film at 2 p.m. on Aug. 17. Snacks are provided. • Huron Garden Club Flower Show: View floral displays on Aug. 22-23 in the AV area. • Documentary Discovery: Watch and discuss a surprise documentary at 10 a.m. or 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 28.
