Court program empowers local advocates

PORT CLINTON — Local court officials shared a volunteer program aimed at supporting vulnerable residents. Ottawa County Probate-Juvenile Court Judge Frederick "Fritz" Hany II along with Margaret Osborne, coordinator of court services, recently addressed the Rotary Club of Port Clinton to spotlight the court's Guardians Advocates and Protectors Program and its broad impact on families across Ottawa County. The presentation emphasized the program's mission to protect the rights of the county's most vulnerable residents, both children and adults, through a structured volunteer initiative. In a nutshell, the program empowers community members to serve as volunteer guardians ad litem for children or volunteer guardians for adults, including those living with dementia or disabilities. Rotary Club of Port Clinton president Duane Waite expressed his organization's appreciation following the presentation: "We were both impressed and astounded to learn of the far-reaching and all-encompassing responsibilities of the probate and juvenile court, which provides essential services throughout the entire lifespan," Waite said.
