LAKESIDE-MARBLEHEAD — For three decades, Second Street has been home to one of Lakeside's most beloved shops. What began as Joseph Wise Fine Clocks has grown into Wise Woman Boutique — 222 W. 2nd St., Lakeside — a welcoming space where Lakesiders discover unique treasures and enjoy heartfelt conversation. When Cynthia and Joseph Wise first opened their clock shop in Lakeside, the building came with some quirks: a raised floor, no insulation and remnants of the deli that came before. But with vision and hard work, they transformed it into a charming storefront. As the business evolved, so did its offerings. Within a year, Cynthia began adding clothing to complement Joseph's clockmaking, an early step toward what the boutique would eventually become. Following Joseph's passing 10 years ago, Cynthia continued running the store. Today Wise Woman Boutique specializes in women's clothing and carries men's shirts, children's items, jewelry and home decor. Cynthia's connection to Lakeside runs deep. She's remained in the same location for three decades, right across the street from Miss Mercedes, a shop owned and operated by her daughter. The boutique has become a special part of her grandchildren's lives as well, giving them a place to meet friendly Lakesiders and spend time with nana. Her grandson, David, now carries on his grandfather's legacy by crafting and repairing clocks. For Cynthia, Lakeside is more than a place of business: It's a community defined by peace, kindness and joy. She especially enjoys getting to know her customers and creating a welcoming shopping experience that feels like home. "It's a great place to be, and I'll be here forever," she said. Though there's no formal celebration planned for the boutique's 30th anniversary, Cynthia said each day feels like a celebration thanks to the people she meets.
