Maui Sands closes for renovations

PERKINS TWP. — Maui Sands Resort has closed as it begins the renovation process, according to the new owner.A sign on the resort's doors say the business is closed for maintenance and provides a number to call.Inderjit Grewal, the CEO of Vintro Hotel & Resorts, said they decided to close the resort early for renovations after experiencing some problems at the resort."We had some water damage, so rather than fixing it halfway and then closing again in a few months time for renovations we decided to go ahead and start the renovations," Grewal said. "I don't like to do anything halfway."There's not a timeframe for when the resort will reopen, but a mitigation company is coming out for the damage, they need to finalize the design and complete zoning before moving forward with construction.But Grewal hopes construction will start soon. He plans to make major improvements to the property his company bought in September 2018."We aren't some company that's going to set up shop and then leave in the middle of the night," Grewal said. "We are here to stay."An Erie County Water Department spokesperson said the water at Maui Sands had been shutoff due to delinquency, but Grewal said that was on purpose to stop anymore problems with the water.Bryan Edwards, a spokesman for Lake Erie Shores & Islands said they've receiving calls from people who had reservations at the resort.
