Woman shot, killed in Vermilion

VERMILION — A man fatally shot a woman in Vermilion early Thursday morning during what police described as a domestic violence incident. Vermilion police responded to a home in the 500 block of Ferndale Ave. shortly before 2 a.m. after being told that a man with a gun was threatening a woman, according to a release from the department. When officers arrived, the man, identified as Bryan J. Hall, 39, of the same address, fired the gun several times and struck the woman twice. "The male suspect then attempted to discharge the weapon into his head but pulled away at the last second," the release states. "The male was taken into custody, and the female was administered life-saving measures but was pronounced dead at the scene." Police did not identify the victim pending next-of-kin notification. Hall was charged with aggravated murder and taken to the Lorain County Jail, the release states. It wasn't clear when he'd make an initial court appearance. The incident occurred in the portion of Vermilion that's in Lorain County, and Vermilion police, the Lorain County prosecutor's office, Lorain County coroner's office and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations will be involved the investigation.
