2 boys hurt in crash

PERKINS TWP. — Two boys were sent to the hospital early Saturday after the tricycle they were riding was struck by an alleged impaired driver. Just before 2:45 a.m., first responders were called to the 2700 block of Campbell St. for the report of boys who were struck by a car. Three boys were riding a three-wheeled bicycle southbound on Campbell Street, according to an Ohio State Highway Patrol media release. Joseph P. Fox, 34, of Sandusky, was driving a Chevrolet Trax southbound on Campbell Street when he allegedly struck the bike from the rear, the release states. One boy was able to jump from the bike before it was struck. The other two boys were thrown from the bike and suffered serious injuries, according to the patrol. Fox then reportedly fled the scene. His vehicle was located in a business parking lot in the 3200 block of Campbell Street. He was located walking away from the car and taken into custody. Fox was charged with aggravated vehicular assault, a third-degree felony. He was additionally charged with leaving the scene of an injury accident, which is a felony. He is also facing two misdemeanors: OVI and assured clear distance ahead. Fox was taken to Erie County Jail. As of late Saturday, he is still incarcerated there under a no-bond order. He is scheduled for a 9 a.m. arraignment Monday in Sandusky Municipal Court.
