Murder suspect arrested

SANDUSKY — On Tuesday, Sandusky police arrested a man suspected of being responsible for a fatal shooting that took place on June 14. Police Chief Jared Oliver said that his department arrested Isaiah J. Wood, 20, 900 block of Carr St., at approximately 2 p.m. at his place of work on Tuesday. Oliver said that Wood is currently charged with one count of murder, relating to the fatal shooting of 27-year-old Dominique M. Johnson, of Sandusky, but that additional charges are possible and will be presented to a future session of the grand jury. "Our investigation revealed that he was the subject responsible for committing the homicide," Oliver said. "Our investigation has also revealed that there may be other subjects involved in either aiding or abetting Wood." Background The shooting incident happened on June 14 outside a business at 1048 Cleveland Road (U.S. 6), where a fight took place both inside and outside the location. Oliver said that sometime during the fight, one adult man was shot outside and was taken by others to a nearby hospital before being transferred to a hospital in the Cleveland area. Police later identified the man as Johnson and according to an autopsy conducted by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office, Johnson suffered a gunshot wound to his right leg, which damaged an artery, resulting in a large amount of blood loss. Jail records indicate that Wood has an arraignment hearing scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
