Dog rescued from fire

SANDUSKY — Sandusky firefighters rescued a dog from a fire on Saturday night. Just after 11 p.m., first responders were called to the 1700 block of Mills St. for the report of a house fire. They arrived to find smoke emanating from the home. It was later discovered that the blaze started in the kitchen, according to Sandusky fire Capt. Jason Roesch. Three people who were in the home at the time were able to escape without injuries, Roesch said. Shortly after starting to battle the blaze, firefighters began emerging from the home with rescued pets. The first pet out was a cat named Dot. Firefighters gave the cat oxygen before returning it to its owner. Other cats were brought out, and then a dog was also brought out. Sandusky firefighters, including Cory Allen, tended to the animals with oxygen and water. After several minutes, the dog was deemed okay to return to its owners' care. Three cats perished in the fire, Roesch said. The fire was extinguished and an investigation began. No firefighters were injured fighting the fire.
