UPDATE: Cedar Point loses power

SANDUSKY — Cedar Point lost power on Saturday evening. The power outage occurred at about 8 p.m., according to Tony Clark, Cedar Point's communications director "TT2 crew kicked everyone out and said they won't be reopening. Guessing the park is closing now due to the power issue," Jordan Pacillo said on a social media post. TT2 is a commonly used initialism for Top Thrill 2. Cedar Point was scheduled to close at 10 p.m. on Saturday, according to its website. Cedar Point Shores, the peninsula's water park, closed at 7 p.m. While it is not known what caused the power outage, high temperatures in the region have sapped the electricity grid. Many homes and businesses have been running air conditioning units nonstop for several days due to the temperatures. "A section of the park lost power around 8 p.m. and was restored by Ohio Edison around 9:45 p.m.," Clark said. "Affected locations were closed, but the park remained open until 10 p.m." He said that there are no existing issues with power as of Sunday morning. A video posted on social media showed EMS workers walking through the park with large flashlights. The outage was not reported on First Energy's outage map as of 9:30 p.m. The only two outages reported on the map in Erie County were each for about 20 customers. One centered on the intersection of Taylor Street and Hayes Avenue (Ohio 4). The other was reported at West Market and Decatur streets. Social media posts reported loud popping sounds coming from the Metal Tek factory near the latter outage location. On Tuesday, a circuit breaker on a utility pole on Decatur Street tripped. This caused a small fire on an insulator. The street was closed for about one hour while the power company responded to the scene to shut off electricity. Crews were seen making repairs to the utility pole on Wednesday. Siren's Curse Cedar Point's newest rollercoaster, Siren's Curse, officially began operations on Saturday. Multiple social media users posted that the coaster, which is designed to move the riders into a face-down position at the top of the lift hill, was stuck in that position for several minutes. The ride is designed to hold riders there for a few moments before dropping them. "Yesterday afternoon, the ride experienced a delay that paused the ride's operation," Clark said. "The coaster's safety system performed as designed, the ride was restarted, and guests continued their ride. Siren's Curse reopened shortly after, and all guests exited the ride safely."
