Wakeman man sentenced to jail, probation on child sex crimes

WAKEMAN — A Wakeman man was recently sentenced after previously pleading guilty to committing sex crimes against a child. At a court hearing on June 18, Aiden J. Sharp, 21, of the 2800 block of Chenango Road, was convicted on four counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, each a fourth-degree felony, and one count of illegal use of a minor or impaired person in nudity-oriented material or performance, a fifth-degree felony. Sharp pleaded guilty to the five charges on May 6, in exchange for four additional counts of illegal use of a minor or impaired person in nudity-oriented material or performance and one additional count of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor to be dismissed. Huron County Common Pleas Court Judge James Conway sentenced Sharp to serve approximately six months in the Huron County Jail and three years of probation, according to court records. Sharp received a credit of about three months served in jail, ultimately reducing his sentence to only three months in jail, according to court records. Under the terms of his sentencing, Sharp is classified as a Tier 2 sex offender, which means that he must verify home and work addresses every six months for 25 years. Background On Feb. 14, Sharp was arrested by the Huron County Sheriff's Office and booked into the Huron County Jail on one count of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a fourth-degree felony. According to court documents from the Norwalk Municipal Court, Sharp engaged in sexual conduct with a girl who was less than 16 years of age on the same day that he was arrested. "This offense is evidenced by witness statements and an admission of Sharp," court documents state. Sharp was indicted by a Huron County grand jury in March. According to his indictment, Sharp, in addition to engaging in sexual conduct with the girl, also "possessed" material that showed a minor in a state of nudity.
