Employee dies at water plant

BAY TWP. — A person died at Ottawa County's water treatment plant on Monday. Authorities did not release much information, but said the victim was an employee of the facility located at 1405 W. Fremont Road just west of Port Clinton, that an investigation is ongoing and that "no foul play is suspected," according to a release from the Ottawa County Emergency Management Agency. Additionally, the EMA stated in conjunction with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, placed all residents using the facility's water under a boil advisory and "to boil all drinking and cooking water for a minimum of one minute until further notice," the release states. Residents in the following areas are asked to follow the boil water advisory: • Village of Elmore • Village of Oak Harbor • City of Port Clinton • Village of Marblehead • Catawba Island Township • Danbury Township • Portage Township • Erie Township • Salem Township • Bay Township • Harris Township The agency said that there is "currently no evidence of contamination," adding that the advisory was placed "out of an abundance of caution." *This is a breaking news story.
