PHOTOS: Join in on Juneteenth celebration

SANDUSKY — On Friday, many locals showed up to Jaycee Park for a Juneteenth celebration. The rain washed away many of the planned activities scheduled for Thursday, yet sunnier skies prevailed one day later. Among the highlights: • Children played basketball tournament games, and their supporters rooted them on from the bleachers. • People enjoyed the entertainment and music playing on speakers. • Attendees supported small businesses, selling goods and offering tasty treats via food trucks. The day ended with fireworks at Jackson Street Pier. Many people, including those from Destination Sandusky and others representing civic-based organizations, came together to coordinate this four-day-long celebration. Here's a look at the other family-friendly festivities taking place this weekend: Saturday, June 21 • 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Freedom Fest Day 2 at Jaycee Park — More kids' activities, music, vendors and celebration • Evening portion at Kozy's Bar & Grill — Durrty Bones Pop-Up with food, music and energy all night Sunday, June 22 • 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Freedom Fest Day 3 at Jaycee Park — Family fun wraps up with vendors, activities and community togetherness • 1-10 p.m., Farwell Freedom Celebration at Farwell Street — DJ, food and activities for all ages — Parade at 5 p.m. as a vibrant capstone to the weekend "This is Juneteenth in Sandusky," according to an event statement.
