Praising Don Parsons

VERMILION — Earlier this month, during the 59th-annual Festival of the Fish, event organizers selected community member Don Parsons as the parade's grand marshal. Following the festival, the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce made a post to explain this decision: The 59th-annual Festival of the Fish proudly honored Capt. Don Parsons as this year's grand parade marshal, recognizing his decades of quiet leadership and unwavering commitment to our waterfront community. Surrounded by friends, family, and parade-goers, Don was celebrated at the reviewing stage in downtown Vermilion. His daughter, Christy, spoke heartfelt words about her father's dedication, strength and lifelong connection to the lake and river that define our town. Festival chair Doug Keith Jr. presented Don with a commemorative plaque on behalf of the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce and the Festival of the Fish committee, a small token of appreciation for a man who has meant so much to so many. Mayor Jim Forthofer also honored Don with an official proclamation from the city of Vermilion, acknowledging his lasting impact and contributions to our harbor town. It was a fitting tribute to a man who has long been a true pillar of Vermilion.
