Beat the heat

FREMONT — A local nonprofit is offering cooling assistance to eligible northwest Ohio residents. Starting July 1 through Sept. 30, Great Lakes Community Action Partnership will help eligible families cool down through the Summer Crisis Program. Eligible families from Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca and Wood counties can take advantage of this program. In order to qualify, a person must provide the following information: • A list of all household members, including Social Security numbers and birth dates • Proof of citizenship for each household member • Proof of income for each adult household member for the previous 30 days or 12 months • Copies of recent utility bills • Disability verification (if applicable) Applicants must also meet the annual income requirements, according to the group's website: • For a household of 1, $26,355 • For a household of 2, $35,770 • For a household of 3, $45,185 • For a household of 4, $54,600 • For a household of 5, $64,015 • For a household of 6, $73,430 • For a household of 7, $82,845 The Summer Crisis Program helped 828 families last year, according to a news release. Great Lakes Community Action Partnership has been tending to northwest Ohio for over 50 years.
