Attend elder abuse forum

SANDUSKY From 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Friday, Serving Our Seniors is hosting a public forum at the Erie County Office Building, third floor, 247 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, to raise awareness about the problem of unreported suspicions of elder abuse. The forum will discuss what elder abuse can look like and what happens after it is reported. Speakers are: • Janice Hitzeman, attorney inspector with the Ohio Department of Commerce's securities division; Appearing virtually, Hitzeman will address financial elder abuse. • April Wehrle, senior elder services coordinator for the Elder Justice Unit's crime victims section with the Ohio Attorney General's Office; Wehrle will appear virtually. • Heidi Turner-Stone, section chief for adult protective services of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services; Turner-Stone will appear virtually. • Julie Kyer, investigator with adult protective services for Erie County Job and Family Services, who will address all forms of elder abuse. No RSVPs are required. Twenty-five seats remain available as of Tuesday morning.
