Investigator hired, school resource officer reassigned

HURON — Officials representing Huron Schools said they hired a third-party group to investigate a former school resource officer. Last month, Huron Schools' board of education approved bringing on Venice Solutions Group. The group's hiring and investigation appear to relate to former district school resource Officer Keith Lobsinger, who works for Huron police. When asked what Lobsinger is under investigation for, district superintendent James Tatman did not share specifics. "To maintain the integrity of a fair and unbiased investigative process, the district does not comment on the details, scope or status of specific or active investigations," Tatman said. Tatman said Lobsinger's relationship with the district ended in April when district officials received notification that the police department would reassign him. The district received an email from the Huron Police Department on April 21 stating Lobsinger would be reassigned immediately. Instead of Lobsinger, the department provided an officer presence on a rotational basis for the remainder of the 2024-25 school year. Aside from his officer role, Lobsinger was also the girls basketball assistant coach and yearbook photographer. These positions were under "supplemental contracts," which automatically expire on June 30 every year. Tatman said his services under these contracts were already completed before his reassignment date in April. Tatman said it is unknown if Lobsinger will return to his position within the district. Investigation The district's work with Venice Solutions Group began on the same day it was approved by the board last month at its May 19 meeting. It is expected to run within 45 days unless otherwise agreed. "The district is committed to providing a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for all students, staff and families," Tatman said. "When allegations arise that are contrary to these core values, they are taken seriously and addressed appropriately in accordance with district policies and procedures." Tatman announced the partnership with Venice Solutions Group in a letter to the community. "This process will be thorough, fair and impartial, ensuring that all facts are properly examined and the truth is determined," Tatman wrote. He also used the letter to remind district families of Ohio's Safer Schools Tip Line — 844-723-3764 — which people can use for anonymous and confidential reporting.
