Free piano concert on Sunday

SANDUSKY — People can see a concert at a local church at no charge this weekend. As part of its 2025 concert series, First Presbyterian Church of Sandusky is presenting a free piano concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, according to a news release. This will take place in the church sanctuary, located at 625 Jackson St. The performer will be John Bogdan, who will be playing pieces from Chopin, Ravel, Liszt and Rachmaninov, in addition to some original compositions from Bogdan. Bogdan holds piano performance degrees from the University of Michigan and the Royal Academy of Music in London. He's performed at venues such as Duke's Hall in London, Steinway Hall in New York City, Verizon Hall in Philadelphia and Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor. Currently, he serves as the pianist for Temple Israel in Southfield, Michigan — the largest temple in North America — and as music director for Faith Community Presbyterian Church in Novi, Michigan, according to a news release. He is also the staff pianist for the University of Michigan's Musical Theater Department. "We are thrilled to be able to have John come for this concert," said the church's pastor, Richard Henderson. "John is an amazing talent." This concert is part of the church's ongoing 2025 music series which began in May and will continue throughout the year. Upcoming events include: • Sept. 14 — Harp concert with Karen Westgate and friends • Oct. 11-12 — Return of popular singer Jessie Hamilton • Nov. 2 — Performance by the Firelands Brass Quintet • Dec. 20 — Community-wide Christmas sing-along featuring organists Jaret and Emily Schroeder.
