Come out to guild's garden tour

Editor's note: Linda Howell, a representative of the Old House Guild of Sandusky, previewed the organization's upcoming garden tour event. SANDUSKY — With summer approaching, we suggest you spend an enjoyable afternoon visiting beautiful area gardens. Many of us have passed a property, wondering what the backyard reveals. Here is your opportunity to take a leisurely stroll through creative landscaping while enjoying the company of other plant lovers. Mark your calendar for June 22 as the Old House Guild of Sandusky will be hosting an afternoon viewing of seven residences, the Sandusky Greenhouse and our welcome gazebo located near Water and Hancock Street. The event takes place from noon to 5 p.m. Tickets can be purchased the day of the tour at the gazebo or in advance at Barnes Nursery, Corso's Flower & Garden Center or Shores & Islands Ohio's offices. Participants will be provided a map of the tour locations. The cost is $10. Bring your door prize portion of your ticket to the gazebo and receive a $10 gift card in return and enjoy light refreshments. No two gardens are alike, so there is something to see and learn at each location. One garden features vegetables and fruits, while others display beautiful plants and intriguing displays. We are quite fortunate to live in a city that takes great pride in the park system as reflected in the talents of the city greenhouse employees along with the Friends of the Greenhouse volunteer group. At the greenhouse, you will be able to observe the wide variety of plants and enjoy a tropical atmosphere. The volunteers will be hosting a plant donation sale where you can take home a lasting souvenir of your day. Guild members Tom and Roseanne Bodner will welcome tour participants to their Boeckling Club on Columbus Avenue to enjoy a limited menu and discounted specials along with beverages in the bier garden picnic area in the rear of the building. Make plans now for a family outing or gathering of friends to enjoy the outdoors and see places that will inspire you in your own gardening endeavors.
