Center to produce 'Peter Pan Jr.'

VERMILION — Harbourtown Fine Arts Center — 736 Main St., Vermilion — will, once again, host its annual Inclusive Summer Theater Camp from July 7-19. "This camp is made available due to the generosity of the Erie County Community Foundation, (which) has provided a grant of $5,000 to help defray the expenses of this camp," according to a center statement. Jim Chapple, the center's president, said that "without the support from the Erie County Community Foundation, it would be more difficult to host this camp and pay the royalties as well as all of the other expenses for putting on a camp of this nature. We are very thankful for their generosity". The camp is open to all students ages 8-14, taking place during the morning and afternoon on these days. "This will be the fourth season that (the center) has held a summer theater camp, and each year we get more and more interest," Chapple said. During the camp, students will be involved in dance, drama, music and art activities while they are learning to present a play at the end of this two-week period. This year, the camp will be focusing on "Peter Pan Jr." The camp culminates in two performances at Trinity Gospel Church, 320 Aldrich Road, with two shows: • The first show will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 18 • The second will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 19 Every student in the camp will participate and be in the show. Auditions for larger speaking roles will take place at 2 p.m. on June 22. To schedule an audition for a speaking part, contact Brittany Drost, camp director, at 440-315-1467. "I love watching the kids grow and become more confident from year to year," Drost said. They make lifelong friends and develop a passion for the performing arts."
