A double standard

The weekend protests in Los Angeles over ICE detention of immigrants has resulted in a lawsuit filed by California Gov. Gavin Newsom against Donald Trump. Without consent of the Los Angeles Mayor or Gov. Newsom, Trump sent National Guardsmen into the city, which complicated the coordination of police efforts to contain the protests. Normal protocol would involve the Mayor and Governor requesting such support. Trump said in an interview, "They spit, we hit. I told them, nobody's going to spit on our police officers, nobody's going to spit on our military." Evidently Trump puts more concern over an immigrant spitting on police than a white man beating police with a flagpole, as happened January 6, 2021. That ugly day for America, Trump sat and watched the rioters breaking into the Capitol, injuring police and security personnel, vandalizing and desecrating the building, erecting a hanging gallows, and did nothing. He then issued pardons for all Capitol rioters. This is who now leads our country, the shame of it all. Dennis A. Stout Bellevue
