Man sentenced for apartment break-in

BELLEVUE — A Sandusky man was recently sentenced after pleading guilty to breaking into an apartment. At a court hearing on June 2, Desmond B. Scott, 56, 600 block W. Madison St., was convicted on one amended count of burglary, a third-degree felony. Scott pleaded guilty to the single charge in exchange for the following charges to be dismissed: • Two counts of aggravated menacing, each a first-degree misdemeanor • Two counts of felonious assault, each a second-degree felony • One count of aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony • One count of assault, a first-degree misdemeanor • One count of menacing, a fourth-degree misdemeanor Huron County Common Pleas Court Judge James Conway sentenced Scott to serve three years of probation, according to court documents. He received about five months' worth of credit for time served in jail. Background At approximately 6:25 a.m. on Nov. 26, Bellevue police responded to a call at an apartment complex located in the 600 block of E. Center St., in response to a man allegedly breaking into an apartment and wielding a knife, according to a Bellevue police report. Once at the scene, officers made multiple commands for everyone inside the apartment to come out at the end of the apartment stairway. A man began walking down the steps, and when officers asked if anyone was injured, he stated that he was, the report states. The man told officers that Scott allegedly broke into the apartment and stabbed him in the back of the head. The man also told officers the other person in the apartment left after Scott allegedly broke in. Upon hearing this, officers went ahead and treated the man's wounds and went up to the apartment to make sure no one else was inside, the report states. Officers found a woman who had fled the apartment a short distance away. She identified Scott as the person who had broken into the apartment, the report states.
