Monroeville's Tyler named first team All-Ohio

Monroeville's Taryn Tyler was a first team All-Ohio softball selection in Division VII on the honor teams released this week by the state coaches association. Tyler batted .561 with 19 doubles, two triples and two home runs in 31 games this season. She had 55 runs batted in and scored 55 runs. Tyler finished her high school career with 161 RBI — 27th-highest in state history — and 183 hits. She was the only area softball player to be named to an All-Ohio first team. The Eagles finished 27-4 and were state runners-up in Division VII. Monroeville was the state runner-up in Division IV last year. This was the first year the OHSAA featured seven divisions in softball. Monroeville senior pitcher Veanna Helmstetter was named to the D-VII second team along with St. Paul sophomore catcher Ella Kalizewski. St. Paul junior Isabella Guerra and Danbury junior Miranda Evans were honorable mention selections. Clyde senior Ella Howey (Division IV) and Edison junior Peyton Taylor (Division V) also were honorable mention selections on the All-Ohio list. The Northwest District teams were announced in conjunction with the All-Ohio squads. Guerra, Helmstetter, Tyler, Evans, Kalizewski and Monroeville's Avery Rosser made the all-district first team in Division VII. St. Paul's Ryleigh Mansfield-Bush made the all-district second team while Danbury's Moriah Hatfield and Rylee Cortright and Monroeville's Madison Reiber and Payton Weilnau were honorable mention picks. In Division III, Norwalk's Mya Prochnow, a senior outfielder, was named to the Northwest District second team. The Truckers Lilly Farmer, a senior infielder, was an honorable mention pick. In Division IV, Howey, Clyde senior Kennedi Long and Bellevue senior Payton Hicks were first team all-district picks. Clyde's Taitum Jeffrey made the second team and Perkins' Hailey Brunner and Avery Baker made honorable mention. In Division V, Edison's Taylor was joined by Port Clinton's Ashton Sanchez on the all-district first team. Edison's Natalie Desautels and Abby Cloud, Huron's Sam Laffay and Riley Dehn and PC's Jae Mazur were honorable mention selections.
