Shooting suspect arrested

SANDUSKY — A Sandusky man was arrested for his alleged involvement in a shooting incident early last week. Tony Drennen, 67, of the 2200 block of Pipe St., is facing one count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony, according to Sandusky police Chief Jared Oliver. The charge stems from a shooting on June 2. At approximately 9:30 p.m., first responders were called to the 2200 block of Pipe St. for a report of a man riding a motorcycle who was shot. The adult male told officers he was pulling into a driveway from Pipe Street when he felt a pain on his right side. He said he realized he had been shot. Officers believed it was a pellet, Oliver said. The man pointed to an area where he believed the shot originated. He was taken to a local hospital with the projectile lodged in his liver. As of Tuesday afternoon, the man is still hospitalized. On June 3, Sandusky detectives executed a search warrant at a property near where the man was shot. "We seized items of an evidentiary nature," Oliver said. Police issued a warrant for Drennen on June 5 and he turned himself in the next day. His case has not been uploaded to the Sandusky Municipal Court's case tracking website as of Tuesday afternoon. Felonious assault is punishable by up to eight years in prison, up to a $15,000 fine and up to five years of post-release control. His mugshot was not taken during the booking process and he was released without being jailed, Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigsworth said. It wasn't clear why Drennen wasn't booked.
