Danbury in market for boys basketball coach

Danbury is looking to fill its boys basketball coaching vacancy in the coming weeks after Adam Scott stepped down after one season leading the Lakers. Scott has accepted an assistant coaching job at his alma mater, Ohio Northern University. He submitted his letter of resignation last Friday. "He said he was happy here, but if he was lucky enough to go back to his alma mater he would be intrigued," Danbury athletic director Joe Miller said. "It's a no-brainer to have that opportunity. He did a really good job for us for someone so young and with no significant coaching experience. "We're excited for his future, but our job is to find the next person who will lead our program into the future." Scott was hired in April 2024 at age 23. He replaced veteran coach Keith Diebler. Scott, who was a full-time substitute at Danbury, played at Ohio Northern after a standout high school career at Wapakoneta. He told Miller about a month ago that he was approached about applying for the ONU job. Miller said Scott had mapped out summer basketball plans before accepting the job at ONU, a NCAA Division III program. Assistant coach Lucas Michael will head the summer program while Danbury interviews for a new coach. "We're looking for someone with a passion for basketball for basketball," Miller said. "We need someone with enthusiasm and the willingness to put in the work to build a great program." The Lakers finished 3-20 overall last season and went 2-16 in the Sandusky Bay Conference River Division. Leading scorer Tyler Harris has graduated, but Frankie Kovach, who averaged 15.2 points per game, will be a junior next season. "We have a lot to offer as it relates to facilities, and we're competitive with what we pay coaches," Miller said. "Hopefully we can get this figured out in the next couple of weeks and hitting the ground running in July."
