Ottawa County court makes offer to those with warrants

PORT CLINTON — A local court will offer those with outstanding warrants a chance to clear up their cases without directly going to jail. The Safe Harbor Day initiative affects only those cases in Ottawa County Municipal Court, according to a court press release. The event runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 26. This will be the third year the court has offered people the opportunity to clear up warrants. Some examples of people who can participate include: • Those who failed to attend a court hearing. They will be seen by the judge or a magistrate and be allowed to enter a plea or have their hearing rescheduled. • Those who failed to complete court-ordered evaluations or programs will be allowed to re-engage in treatment with the appropriate monitoring by the probation department. • Those who failed to carry out their community service will be allowed to reschedule the completion date. • Those who no-showed for payment status hearings will meet with the judge or magistrate to review their status and establish a payment plan. • Those who did not serve jail days will get the chance to schedule a new report-to-jail date.
