EDISON • Edison Writing Club competed at the Just Write Ohio state competition. Lizzie Campbell, AJ Chambers, Joy Jordan, Lainie Keegan, Ilah Reynolds and Navea Yamanouchi won the Division 2 Championship, earning first place out of all competing schools. • Fifth-grade students set a record at this year's Entrepreneur Day. The students presented $5,472 to Mary Kuhn at the class's award ceremony. Students set up shops and sold items to support the Courtney Kuhl Scholarship. • Edison High School named its list of Students of the Quarter. — Miley Hamlin: art — Breanna Leimbach and Calvin Kegley: EHOVE Career Center — Ava Gardner: family and consumer ccience — Carter Kuffa: health/physical education — Peyton Bissell, Ezri Rutger, Audrianna Burnham and Corbin Sawyer: language arts — Kayla Bernard, Lee Warnke, Gabby Mesenburg and Alaina Cowley: math — Kenzie Bauer and Liza Gornek: music — Peyton Bissell, Peyton Werner and Zach Rang: science — Alex Davidson, Alaina Cowley and Rose Gall: social studies — Brooks Ballah: technology — Ingrid Berckmueller, Mario Estrada Patlan and Jacoby Valimont: world language • Edison Middle School's fifth-grade students explored science. Students dissected owl pellets to find bones and understand energy through the food chain. They also learned about local ecosystems at Old Woman Creek. • The Enlightening Club celebrated its year of work with a party. Members played games, made bracelets and ate doughnuts. EHOVE CAREER CENTER • EHOVE graduated 64 adult education students on May 27. The career center celebrated students in the building trades, electrical technician, HVAC technician, marine trades technician, massage therapy, medical assistant with phlebotomy, phlebotomy technician and welding technician occupational programs and the adult diploma program. PORT CLINTON • Port Clinton Schools was given the Best Communities for Music Education Award for the seventh year in a row. The award comes from the National Association of Music Merchants and names the district as a leader nationwide for its commitment to music education. • Port Clinton Middle School hosted its annual awards ceremony to celebrate its students. Students were recognized with several awards, including academic achievement awards, academic excellence awards, midship awards, athletic awards and several others. Students also received recognition and certificates as they move on the the high school next year. SANDUSKY • Sandusky Schools' Gentlemen's Club helped out 89-year-old Bob Krogh. After a hip injury, Krogh was having trouble finishing his flower bed project, so he called the city for help. He thanked the club's instructor Dustin Sharp and students Tristen Feick and Dominic D'Amico. • Sandusky Middle School's eighth grade went to Washington, D.C. THE ERIE COUNTY REPUBLICAN WOMEN'S CLUB • The Erie County Republican Women's Club is accepting applications for two $1500 scholarships. Applicants must reside in Erie County and have completed at least two years of college. Applicants are open to men and women and to students in graduate school and students who have earned a two-year associate's degree. Students must also have at least a 3.0 grade point average. Dollars will be awarded at the start of the fall. CLYDE-GREEN SPRINGS • McPherson Middle School said goodbye to two retirees: Amy Hilliker and the school's four-legged friend, Snickers. Snickers roamed the halls for 15 years alongside Hilliker, who was the school's guidance counselor for 33 years. HURON • Local school districts enjoyed ice cream at Vargo's Drive In, including Norwalk and Huron area students. • Huron School congratulated TJ Murray for his accomplishment of being Sandusky Elks Male Teen of the Year. NORWALK • Norwalk Schools celebrated Principal's Day and recognized individuals at the district over the last month including teachers, lunch aids, nurses and speech and language pathologists. Norwalk Schools also visited the Ronald McDonald House to donate pop tabs and volunteered to clean the facility and hosted a Beyond the Vines eighth-grade formal. MARGARETTA • Sixth-grade students became entrepreneurs as part of Young Entrepreneurs' Market Day. Students planned products, applied for business licenses and startup loans, designed logos, slogans and flyers, practiced economic vocabulary and presented their work at Market Day. • Margaretta hosted a Senior Sunrise.
