Local students honored with scholarships

HURON TWP. — To celebrate its 30th anniversary, the Erie County Community Foundation awarded nearly $225,000 to more than 80 local high school and college students. A presentation occurred during the nonprofit's annual scholarship recognition breakfast on May 30 at Sawmill Creek Resorts in the Huron area. Part of the foundation's mission centers on supporting and furthering educational opportunities for area youth. Since its inception in 1995, the foundation has awarded more than 1,400 scholarships totaling nearly $2.25 million, helping students pursue college and post-secondary education. "I am honored to congratulate this year's scholarship recipients," said Debralee Divers, the foundation's scholarship chair and a board member. "These remarkable students have demonstrated not only academic excellence but also a deep commitment to their communities," Divers added. "We believe in their potential to lead, inspire and create meaningful change in Erie County and beyond," she continued. "As they embark on the next chapter of their journey, we offer our heartfelt support and encouragement. The future is brighter because of them." The foundation manages about 50 named scholarship funds, each tailored to support students based on a variety of criteria, including academic merit, financial need, field of study, athletic involvement and community service. Through the foundation's universal grant application, students are automatically matched with scholarships that align with their qualifications.
