Counseling coming to cancer patients

SANDUSKY — Firelands Counseling & Recovery Services of Erie County is partnering with University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky to provide easier access to counseling for cancer patients. "Having access to counseling can empower patients and their families to cope with a cancer diagnosis, address future uncertainty, navigate relationship changes and develop effective coping strategies," according to a statement from Firleands Health. "This partnership offers a streamlined referral process and pools available financial support options." Patients can schedule appointments with Tracy Byington, a licensed independent social worker, directly at the UH Seidman Cancer Center, 701 Tyler St., Sandusky, or at Firelands Counseling & Recovery Services, 1925 Hayes Ave. (Ohio 4), Sandusky. "I am excited to offer emotional support to patients and their families and make it easier for them to access these much-needed services," Byington said. Byington brings extensive experience in supporting individuals navigating chronic illnesses and their caregivers, the statement read. "She is dedicated to providing compassionate care to cancer patients at every stage of their journey: from the initial diagnosis and active treatment to the transition into life after treatment," it added.
