Sandusky's Walk named district player of the year

A total of 44 area high school baseball players were named to the District 9 honor list. Sandusky senior Dennarius Walk was named player off the year on the Division I/II/III team. Walk batted .439 this season for the Blue Streaks. He hit 10 doubles, scored 22 runs and stole 30 bases. Walk, who will play collegiately at Terra State Community College, had a 4-2 pitching record with a 2.14 earned run average in 39 1/3 innings. The District 9 all-star games are scheduled for next Monday night at Sports Force Parks. Sandusky's Rocco D'Amico was named to the second team and Blue Streaks Dillon Crawford and Deyker Inciarte were honorable mention picks. Norwalk's Carter Harp was a second team selection and Truckers Wesley Shupe and Noah Helton were on the honorable mention list. In Division IV, Perkins' Dylan Crabtree and Bellevue's Ike Brown made the first team. Shelby's Quinton Albert was D-IV player of the year. Perkins' Talon Walton and Vermilion's Logan Peterson were named to the second team. Area honorable mention picks in Division IV included Perkins' Kash Koch and Braxden Martin, Bellevue's Drew Dennings and Blake Sutherland, Clyde's Colt Flores and Blake Gerstenberger and Vermilion's Codey Schwarck and Oliver Roy. In Division V, Edison's Abe Hermes and Bryson Wittmer were named to the first team and the Chargers' Cole Leimeister was named to the second team. Oak Harbor's Brayden Butzin was the player of the year. Honorable mention picks included Edison's Davin Wendt and Chaz Smith and Port Clinton's Derek Abernathy. Huron's Landon Hohler was the lone area player on the Division VI first team. Riverdale's Evan Reiter was named player of the year. Named to the second team were Huron's Paul Maloney, Margaretta's Zach Gray and Monroeville's Colt Clark. Huron's Caden Peterman and Sam Cox, Margaretta's Bren Smith and Memphis McKenzie and Monroeville's Reid Wasserman and Ethan Smiley were on the D-VI honorable mention list. In Division VII, St. Mary Central Catholic's Reid Wikel and St. Paul's Landon Fries made the first team. Mohawk's Hunter Haynes was player of the year. St. Paul's Alex Marsh was a second team pick. Six area players were on the honorable mention list: SMCC's Austin Gill and Blake Finneran, St. Paul's Jacob Zuccaro and Gabe Snyder and Danbury's Logan Shepherd and Tommy Dean.
