Awareness through wellness

It's a strength-based suicide prevention program that promotes well-being, resilience, healthy coping and a sense of belonging. MILAN TWP. — Edison High School's students promoted mental health through physical health. At Edison High School, Sources of Strength brings together diverse students and staff to build and share a community rooted in connection, support and empowerment. On May 23, the Sources of Strength Do Right Peer Leaders organized a Wellness Field Day in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month. This event was not just a fun way to close out the school year, but it was also a powerful reminder of the strength we've built together as a school community. The afternoon featured grade-level competitions, individual challenges and open activities designed to promote both physical and mental wellness. But beyond the games and excitement, this day carried a deeper message: It was a celebration of the resilience, relationships and sense of unity that have grown throughout the year at Edison. The mission of the Sources of Strength Do Right Peer Leaders is to create a culture of wellness, and this event symbolized that mission in action. It honored the bonds we've formed, the obstacles we've overcome and the everyday moments that quietly strengthen our community. Moments like joining a campaign, participating in a classroom activity, or even just offering a smile in the hallway. Every single person at Edison has contributed to this movement, whether they realize it or not. As we approach the end of the year, a time often filled with both excitement and uncertainty, our goal is to remind everyone that it's OK to feel overwhelmed or anxious. Those feelings are real and valid. But more importantly, you are not alone. As a peer leader, I've personally faced moments of pressure and stress this year. But what carried me through were the people around me, the friends, classmates and staff who uplifted and encouraged me every step of the way. Edison is home to one of the strongest, most supportive communities I've ever known. Together, we've created something truly powerful: a culture of strength. And as we move forward, we'll continue to grow, support one another and carry this strength with us.
