Train victim's condition 'improving'

FREMONT — The 14-month-old girl who was hit by a train earlier this month in Fremont is out of the ICU, according to the city's top-ranking elected official. Just before 7:30 p.m. on May 18, first responders were called to the area of the Hayes Avenue railroad crossing on the Miles Newton Bridge for a report that a train had struck five pedestrians. In total, three people died as a result of the crash: two women, ages 50 and 34, as well as a 5-year-old child. The victims were identified as a family visiting from Fort Wayne, Indiana. A news release from the City of Fremont identified the victims who died as: • O Ny Zar, 34, of Fort Wayne, Indiana • Ram Masan, 50, of Fort Wayne, Indiana • Intisar Mi, 5, of Fort Wayne, Indiana The 14-month-old girl, identified as Arti Kar, was rescued from the Sandusky River by a person who witnessed the collision. CPR was performed on site, and the child was transported to St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. On Thursday, Sanchez said the girl recently left the ICU and her condition — as of the past few days — was improving.
