Life changed 'for the better'

SANDUSKY — Upon earning her diploma, a 2025 graduate of St. Mary Central Catholic High School was recognized by members of the school faculty for her strong work ethic. Over the past four years at St. Mary's, Mylee Johnson has made it a mission of hers to excel in and out of the classroom, according to two St. Mary staff members: intervention specialist Tracie Fetter and director of guidance Meagan Howman. Fetter, who first met Johnson when she was a freshman, said that she is proud of Johnson's growth, not only personally and spiritually but also academically. "Even though she has struggled through the years with a learning disability, her strong work ethic and unwavering determination have helped her overcome it and find success in and out of the classroom," Fetter said. "Unlike most peers her age, she challenges herself to do hard things rather than take the safe or easy way out." During her time at St. Mary's, Johnson was heavily involved in the following activities: • Thrower and senior leader for the school's track team • School newspaper and yearbook • National Arts Honor Society • A member of the school's Teen Leadership Corps, where she served as a co-leader for the school's annual toy drive • Tutored younger students Johnson expressed gratitude for the teachers and staff at St. Mary's for believing in her and setting her up for success following graduation. "They gave me the opportunity to restart my whole academic journey. When I was younger, I did not have the best grades, and when I was told that I had a learning disability, my life completely changed, but for the better," Johnson said. "(I) worked hard every single day since then to be who I am today." Following graduation, Johnson plans on attending Wright State University and majoring in education. "As a student interested in pursuing a major in education, I can say that Mylee has the heart of a teacher and is willing to help any student or staff member who may need it," Fetter said. "She has been such a blessing in my life, and I have no doubt she will continue to shine bright in the lives of others as well."
