'Extraordinary' nurses recognized

NORWALK — Brooke Osborn, a staff nurse in the emergency department at Fisher-Titus, recently received a Daisy Award for her exceptional care. The award is part of the Daisy Foundation's programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. Recipients of this award at Fisher-Titus are nominated and then selected by a committee with a new recipient being chosen every three months. Osborn received a nomination from a family member of a patient who was cared for by her at Fisher-Titus. "While the patient was in severe pain after a traumatic accident, Brooke went out of her way to fulfill the patient's needs and requests with a positive attitude." The patient nomination reads: "Our family wanted to make sure Brooke was recognized for the kind, compassionate care she showed to us in a time of need." Due to receiving many nominations within this award period, two additional Fisher-Titus nurses also received recognition as runner-ups for this award: • Ana Banlasan, a staff nurse in the ICU • Hannah Roth, a staff nurse in the emergency department "We are proud to partner with (the foundation), as Fisher-Titus is home to extraordinary nurses who are dedicated to exceptional patient care." The Daisy Foundation, a nonprofit, was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Barnes died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, a little-known but not uncommon autoimmune disease. The care Barnes and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
