Huron recognizes resident with Coast Guard ties

HURON — Huron officials extended an appreciation to a local resident, Dr. Stannard Baird Pfahl Jr., for his military contributions. Pfahl, representing the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, recently attended a ceremony at Huron City Hall where local officials presented him with a mayor's proclamation. He received it, in part, due to "his outstanding service and commitment for the many years of his adult life to recreational boat safety," according to a city statement. Other members of the auxiliary attended the ceremony to support and celebrate Pfahl's "service and dedication to the Huron community," it read. Proclaiming his greatness Here's an excerpt of the proclamation for Pfahl read at the recent meeting: • The city of Huron wishes to honor and celebrate Dr. Stannard Baird Pfahl Jr.'s commitment of many years of his adult life to recreational boat safety. • In 2006, Dr. Pfahl became a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. • During his nearly 20 years of service, Dr. Pfahl has participated in over 900 Coast Guard missions and contributed over 13,000 volunteer hours in service to the citizens of the city of Huron and the surrounding communities. • Dr. Pfahl has conducted 265 vessel safety checks on local boats and provided useful boating tips to ensure safe passage to all who transit the waters leading to and from Lake Erie. • Additionally, he has spent over 600 hours participating in the instruction of 110 boating safety classes, which successfully graduated 600 students • Dr. Pfahl's efforts have had a profound influence on the lives of those who take to the water in our community. His wise counsel has clearly helped to ensure that his neighbors understood the value of wearing a Coast Guard-approved life jacket and that they were equipped to keep themselves safe on the waters in and around the Huron community. • I, (Huron Mayor) Monty Tapp, on behalf of the city of Huron, do hereby proclaim the service and dedication of Dr. Stannard Baird Pfahl Jr. to be noteworthy and deserving of recognition and urge all citizens to join me in congratualting Dr. Pfahl for his outstanding service to the city of Huron and wishing him many continued years of happiness and good health.
