2 vehicles involved in turnpike crash

SANDUSKY TWP. — The Ohio State Highway Patrol's Milan post is investigating a two-vehicle injury crash involving a pair of commercial tractor-trailers. Troopers reported the incident happened just before 6 a.m. Thursday on the Ohio Turnpike. More specifically, the crash happened at milepost 91 in the westbound lane in Sandusky Township. A report outlines what allegedly occurred: • A 2020 Volvo commercial tractor-trailer "was parked on the right berm of the Ohio Turnpike, westbound, with its hazards activated." • The Volvo was occupied by two California men, ages 21 and 26. • A 2021 Freightliner commercial tractor-trailer traveling west, operated by an Indiana man, "went off the right side of the road and struck the rear of the Volvo commercial tractor-trailer." • The Indiana man "sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported by ground ambulance" to a Toledo-area hospital. • The California men sustained minor injuries and did not receive further medical attention. The turnpike's right lane in this direction remains closed throughout Thursday morning. Troopers continue to investigate the crash.
