New London man sent to federal prison

NEW LONDON — A New London man was sentenced in 2024 to prison for possessing child sexual abuse materials, also known as child pornography. Cody E. Hamilton, 33, received a six-year sentence from Ohio Northern District Judge James R. Knepp II, according to federal court documents. He was also ordered to pay a $100 assessment, $6,000 in restitution as well as a $5,000 assessment for the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act. He was also ordered to forfeit a cellphone seized during the execution of a search warrant. Hamilton was indicted in June 2023 with one count of receipt and distribution of child pornography. The indictment alleged that for two years, beginning in January 2021, Hamilton "did knowingly receive and distribute any visual depiction using any means or facility of interstate commerce, the production of the visual depiction involved the use of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct, and such visual depiction was of such conduct." He pleaded guilty in March 2024 and was sentenced in August. Hamilton has an expected release date of December 2029, according to the federal Bureau of Prisons. It is unclear why the release date is less than six years from his incarceration late last year.
