No longer a wait for Freight House

NORWALK — Earlier this month, the Freight House, 50 N. Prospect St., in Norwalk recently reopened to customers, celebrating with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. "We wish you all the success and are so happy to have you back open for business," according to a statement from the Huron County Growth Partnership. "Go eat, folks: They're ready to serve you." Closed for several months, earlier this spring, the youngest generations owning Berlin Heights-based Burnham Orchards — Joe Burnham and his three daughters, Alexis, Julianna and Audrianna — together purchased The Freight House. "It still feels surreal in the best way," said Alexis, noting the family sought to retain the Freight House name. "This wasn't part of some long-term plan. My dad and my sisters and I weren't actively looking to open a restaurant," Alexis added. "But when the opportunity came up, it was one of those moments that just felt right — a chance to build something of our own right here in the town we love and a way to carve out a legacy as the seventh generation of our family while still having the full support of the sixth," she said. "Thanks, dad."
