PREP ROUNDUP: Edison wins SBC Bay baseball title

PORT CLINTON — The Edison baseball team put the wraps on yet another Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division championship with Friday's 11-1 win in six innings over host Port Clinton. Edison — tied for the No. 1 ranking in the Division V state coaches poll — improved to 18-1 overall and 9-0 in the league. In Friday's win, Chaz Smith was 2 for 3 with a double and drove in three runs while scoring twice. Eli Hermes hit a pair of doubles and drove in two while Tristian Wetherill also doubled with a RBI and Gabe Dymond singled with a RBI. Cole Leimeister went five innings for the win. He allowed an unearned run on three hits with five strikeouts and two walks. For Port Clinton (2-15, 1-8), Tre Armendariz, Danny Baker and Grant Barnhill each singled. Monroeville's Ethan Smiley allowed the two earned runs with six strikeouts and one walk for the Eagles (9-8, 5-6). Landin Hershiser singled and drove in a pair for Monroeville. Edison improved to 16-5 overall and 9-0 in the league. The Chargers lead rival Huron (16-7, 8-1) by one game and visit the Tigers on May 16. Before then, Edison hosts Port Clinton in a Div. V sectional title game. In Friday's win, Abby Cloud was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI. In the circle, she pitched five scoreless innings on two hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.
