PREP ROUNDUP: Bellevue girls win Elks Invitational

BELLEVUE — Reese Meacham won two individual events while Amerie Wagner won one and assisted on a relay win, lifting Bellevue to the team championship at the Bellevue Elks Invitational on Thursday. Bellevue finished with 137 points while Perkins was second with 95 points. Clyde (75 points) was fourth and Edison (61) was eighth. Meacham took the 800 meter in 2:34.99 and won the 1600 in 5:33.76. Wagner crossed the line in 1:00.05 to win the 400. She teamed with Katelyn Turner, Hallie McCarthy and Lilly Sosa to win the 4x200 in 1:47.20. Alex Merriman won the 300 hurdles for Perkins in 46.66 while Camryn VanVlerah won the high jump with a top mark of 5 feet, 2 inches. Gabriella Schirg took the shot put with a toss of 38-10.75. Clyde won the 4x200 relay. The quartet of Jolene Brennan, Anabelle Zieber, Gabby Griffin and Marissa Gessner crossed the finish line in 4:18.53. Clyde boys finish second BELLEVUE — Behind three wins from Damarius Chrisman, Cayden Perkins and Dekin Crockett, the Fliers were runners-up to Liberty-Benton for the boys team title. The Eagles tallied 146 points while Clyde amassed 126 points. Bellevue (105.5 points) was third, Perkins (92.5) was fourth and Edison (72) was fifth. Chrisman won the 100 (10.70) and 400 (50.58) while Crockett took the 200 (22.29) and 300 hurdles (39.44). Perkins won the high jump (6-02) and long jump (20-07.50) before the three teamed up with Hector Garza to take the 4x100 in 43.65. Elias Sponseller, James Henderson, Alex Lovins and Evan Bova won the 4x800 relay for Bellevue in 8:33.23. Jeremiah Tuttamore was victorious in the pole vault with a top mark of 12-00. Huron (12-7) trailed 5-1 when Davis' grand slam tied the game in the fifth inning. Perkins (13-6) went ahead in the top of the sixth, but Maloney answered with the go-ahead hit for the Tigers. Caden Peterman lined three singles for Huron while Davis and Maloney each had an additional hit. Jack Murray contributed two singles for the Tigers. Danny Baker scored three times for the Redskins. Derek Abernathy went the distance for the win. He allowed just one earned run on two hits while striking out eight. Danbury (5-14) took a 1-0 lead into the sixth inning when the Eagles (8-7) struck for two runs. The Lakers responded to take a 7-2 lead into the seventh inning. Logan Shepherd had two hits and two runs scored for Danbury. Taylor Monak went six innings for the win, allowing just one earned run. Colt Clark (RBI) and Jake Fries (run scored) each had two hits for the Eagles. Landin Hershiser started and went five innings for Monroeville. The rescheduled game was a home game for Edison, but was played at Willard because of field conditions. The Chargers lead Huron (15-7, 7-1 SBC Bay) by one game with a head-to-head meeting yet to play. In the victory, Edison (15-5, 8-0) got three hits with a double and three RBIs from Natalie Desautels. Payton Taylor had two doubles, a RBI and scored three time, while Abby Cloud had two hits and two RBI. Ivy Kluding also doubled and drove in a pair for the Chargers, while Adison Wechter singled twice with an RBI. Cloud struck out 11 with four walks over seven innings for the win. Mazur reached one of Margaretta's 11 issued walks. Sanchez finished off her complete game effort to improve Port Clinton to 11-9 overall and 6-3 in league play. She struck out 13. Sanchez and Olivia Emerson each homered for the Redskins. Emerson also singled and doubled and scored twice. Lucy Edwards had three singles and a run scored for the Polar Bears (6-14, 3-6). Hannah Koelsch singled, doubled and drove in four runs for Perkins. Avery Baker (four runs scored) and Maddie Rinkes (two RBI) each lined two hits for the Pirates while Aubrey Ransom singled, scored twice and had two RBI. Hailey Brunner scored two runs for Perkins. For St. Paul (11-7), Ryleigh Mansfield-Bush had two doubles, two singles and a run batted in while Mallorie Sowers tallied three singles, a double and three RBI. Bella Guerra (three runs) and Kegney Stoll (RBI) each tripled and singled. Also for the Flyers, Addy Rospert had a double, single and two RBI while Taegen Mansfield-Bush smacked two singles with a RBI. Ella Kalizewski doubled and drove in a run. Guerra went five innings in the circle for the win. She allowed five runs (three earned) on nine hits with six strikeouts and no walks. "They have been a great team to work with because they seem to rise to whatever the occasion calls for. We had some tests early in the second round of league play with injuries, but the team bonded together and found ways to win close matches and the end result was to win the SBC Lake Division outright."
